Filleule des Fées

Discover our oil camellias (Camellia oleifera), symbols of elegance and purity. Carefully cultivated, they yield a rare oil prized for its exceptional quality and natural properties.

Before planting camellia oleifera

Camellia oleifera belongs to the same botanical genus as the tea plant, Camellia sinensis, sharing its natural elegance while expressing a different purpose: that of a rare and precious oil.

Cultivated in China for centuries, this evergreen tree yields a remarkably pure material, with a fine texture and exceptional balance – long reserved for demanding culinary and cosmetic uses.

It is characterized by a dense, well-branched structure and moderate growth, typically reaching between 2 and 5 meters in height under cultivation. Its autumn flowering produces white blossoms with yellow centers, followed by capsules containing several oil-rich seeds.

Production generally begins between 4 and 6 years, depending on growing conditions. Oil camellia thrives in acidic to slightly acidic, well-drained soils, and prefers bright exposure without excessive water stress. Its cold hardiness is around -10 to -12°C.

Still relatively uncommon in our latitudes, it is now emerging as a distinctive crop at the crossroads of agricultural excellence, craftsmanship, and the rediscovery of a once confidential plant.

The Filleule des Fées team is proud to offer for sale three cultivars of oil camellia (Camellia oleifera), selected for their agronomic qualities and production potential.
